Welcome to Cessnock West Public School. It brings me great joy to extend a warm welcome to you and your family as your child/ren begins their primary education journey with us. Our school takes immense pride in its vibrant community, dedicated staff, and exceptional learning approaches grounded in high-quality, explicit teaching. Established in May 1920 as Cessnock West Infants School, our institution has evolved alongside the growth of Cessnock, transitioning to a public school in June 1925. From a modest start with 36 students, we have flourished into a thriving school community of approximately 400 students, supported by 30 teaching staff and 20 support staff members.
As the principal, I am honoured to lead a team committed to providing an enriching learning environment that fosters academic excellence and personal growth. We believe in empowering each child to embrace their unique talents and abilities, encouraging them to become independent, self-motivated, and confident individuals. Our strong partnerships with the Cessnock Community of Great Schools, local community groups, and the Korreil Wonnai Local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) enhance our programs and events.
Our professional, university-educated teachers encourage students to develop a love of learning and a desire to succeed. They maintain the highest integrity and concern for your child’s wellbeing.
